Starting in the middle of Thorp Arch trading estate out on Avenue D you will run west to the end of the road until you meet the start of the bridleway. Follow the trail and run north-west; a short distance ahead you will cross Walton Road. Continue on past Leeds United Football Club’s training ground; the run will cover lots of lush green expanses before the run skirts around the Wetherby before rejoining the line straight to Spofforth. Take a break when you reach this famous village… the 13th century castle is a great spot to recharge.
On the way back to Thorp Arch you’ve got the chance to test yourself on the second leg of this run. See if you can beat the time of the first leg and conquer speed over distance.
Despite being nearly traffic free this route has to cross a couple of busy roads. It’s easy to lose focus when you’re running across some lovely landscape.
Thorp Arch is a small village next to Wetherby 12-miles north of Leeds. Thorp Arch is the home of Leeds United’s training ground.
Planning a toilet break halfway in Spofforth is your best bet. If not, a hedgerow will have to make do!
There is lots of parking on the Thorp Arch estate. Park for free on Avenue D, postcode: LS23 7FS (Google Map Directions)
