Explore the ruins of Howley Hall, an Elizabethan Country House; run 3k over a mixture of trail and field and leave the traffic and noise behind you.

This route has a distance of 3km and an elevation gain of 46m.

The largest non-stop incline begins in the second third of of the route, and has a distance of 288m and an elevation gain of 15m. You can see this on the above elevation chart in red.

The largest continual decline is 297m long with an elevation drop of 20m which starts in the final third of the route. This is shown on the chart as green.

Route Description

Start the run going south on Dewsbury Road and take the third left onto Quarry Lane. Keeping following the lane, with the Beck on your left, until it turns into the Leeds Country Way. At this point you’re completely removed from the traffic behind you – heading out across open fields. You’ll run between three big water drums at this point with the way through narrowing to a single file trail.

This narrow trail runs through a kissing gate and around Howley Hall golf course. The split in the trail 400 metres ahead is your cue to drop down the right hand turning. At this point you’ve arrived at Howley Hall Ruins. It’s be rude not to take a few snaps. There’s an Instagram-able one at the top of the ruins.

Turn 180 degrees and retrace your strides all the way back to the start.


As you’re running to historical ruins that are more than 350 years old. Our hot take warning for this run route is to watch your step as you reach the grounds of the ancient hall – there’s quite a few old stones scattered about!
